Oh...
Re: 'So by his account, my pro-tru piston is the same as the pro-lite piston?'

That doesn't follow.........
That DOES follow the following:
No such thing as an "E" piston. They the same from 86-06 (afaik)
What I have is obviously NOT the same thing, and it is from no earlier than 1993.

just sayin...

circa 95 then? Great price! Langcourt got my cylinder thursday. Didn't hear anything from the shop today though. I'll give him a shout monday to see if he's heard from them.

oh, posted before the pics! Hey, can you get a shot from the bottom up?

Wow, thanks for the pics. I remember thinkin that the inside of that "protru" piston I had looked somewhat different than the last pro-lite I had. Looking at your pics I can't see any difference at all though.

If you search wiseco, they offer protru pistons as a "performance forged piston for the budget minded enthusiast". However, they do not offer it for the KDX any longer, or any bikes for that matter from what I can see.

Looks like a pretty small window in that piston.

I'd go so far as to say that IS a pretty small window! Fer'git lookin' like!

Great pin oiling holes...well...ONE of 'em on each boss.

Re: 'Pro-tru not a Pro-lite..'

I'm missing something..and it's not particularly important..but..

I'll bet'cha the 597PS doesn't look like a 'new' pro-lite. I'll bet your pro-tru doesn't either. I'm not saying it ISN'T a pro-lite...and I'm sure it works just fine.

I'm also sure the newer ones are that way for some reason SOMEone deemed reasonable.

I had a '73 440 R/T 440HP Challenger.

It didn't look like an '09 Challenger.

Yar. I'll agree. My "pro-tru" has a regular old oblong cutout on the intake side as far as I remember. I'll verify when I get it back. Kinda funny about that lil' hole on Wibb's. Interesting....

My cylinder and piston are back from langcourt. Apparently they've been here for a few days. We've been covered up with ice and snow since before x-mas though, and the shop never got around to calling me. I should be picking the stuff up today :)

FYI,

Checking out my 86-93 wiseco NOS piston, it looks EXACTLY the same as Wibben's NOS piston. Same little hole on the intake skirt and everything. I'm curious how that will affect performance as opposed to the large oblong cutout in the pro-x. Cylinder looks GREAT btw. Well, it looks great for a 20 year old cylinder that was fit for the trash bin before Langcourt got their hands on it. I'll try and get some pictures up this evening.

Still getting used to the new cam. Hard to get good pics of something that darn shiney. I would have expected more crosshatch. The crosshatch is there, but it's pretty light. You can't really see it in the pics....

I wish I'd taken before pics of this cylinder. I many times considered tossing it out, it was that bad...

power valves are ordered. Now I just have to wait.... I also got some tusk 1 1/8th bars with bar pad, a new helmet, and another $60 left to spend. Birthdays are cool :)

I've been reading through some of the older posts and was interested in the outcome of the rebuild. Are your valves holding up better with the different cylinder you had langcourt fix and replate? What caused your kips valves to fail so many times in only a few years?

Haven't broken one in the new cylinder yet, but I made a plate that goes over the bushing on the RH side of the engine to hold it in straight. I noticed when I put things back together that that bushing had some wiggle room and holding it out a bit would cause everything to bind up. I think the breakages I was having were due to that, along with wear in the lower journals for the subvalves.

Do you have pics of your setup? I think it'd be very useful for others with the E model.
