The 04 kx500 forks are 46mm the 2002 kx125 forks are 48mm i'm surprised the lower kx500 triple clamp fit. Also do you know if the offset is the same on the kx500 triples as 99-01 kx125 triples?
Thanks for any info I just bought some 2000 kx125 forks off ebay.

Yes, lower triple clamp fit both. In fact, I stumbled on a pair of nearly new '06 KX 250F forks that I just replaced the 2001 KX 125 forks with and still used the same lower clamp. The top clamp diameter is different for all (KX 125, KX 500, KX 250F).
You mention the 46mm vs. 48mm - that's the fork tubes, right, not the cartridges?
I'll post pics of the KX 250F front end soon.

Maybe a lame interject...but using 'a' measurement, say 48mm, doesn't necessarily mean that both clamps on a given set of forks are the same size. Reading some of this I could see a puzzlement if it was thought that both clamps (again..on a given set of forks) had to be the same size.
Any mention of 46/48mm is going to apply to the fork tubes..not the cartridges.
Does this answer the offset question?

In the USA, 1990 was the first year for inverted KX500 forks.
1983 - 1988 was 43mm conventional.
1989 was 46mm conventional.
1990 was 41mm USD.
1991 - 1996 was 43mm USD.
1997 - 2004 was 46mm USD.
1988 - 2004 are cartridge style forks.
On the clamps, 1987 was the first KX year for the threaded on the outside stem and nut. 1986 and at least some of the earlier years had a threaded on the inside and bolt mounting system. 1986 was silver/gray. 1985 and some of the earlier years were black.

wonder if any of the earlier kx 500 forks would fit directly into the kdx stock trees on an H model and be able to use kdx wheel axle and what not??

No... but the entire frontend should be a direct swap.

Just getting to the front end and this seems to be what I was looking for. A complete front end of a KX500 will bolt up to a KDX. Cool. I have a 2006 200 - what KX500 years should I focusing on looking for?
