Hey guys! Got my cylinder back (guy said it was runnable but i got it replated anyways) and am doing a leak down test like I always do when I put my bikes back together.

I'm getting a leak out of the KIPS side cover, there's a picture down below. I know there is a hole in here that goes straight through to the power valves but I figured the paper seal I have would seal it if it needed sealing (I don't know why it goes through to the valves in the first place). Is there an o-ring that goes in there that I cannot seem to find?

I also noticed that when I put the valves in the open position (operating valve all the way out) it barely leaks. (it went down 1 psi over 5 minutes). Which might tell me my crank seals need replaced? Or it may still be leaking through that hole, which may make sense because it is only sealing through metal-metal contact would be my guess.

Update- I just came back down to the garage again because I was stupid and didnt test it.
I pulled the operating rod all the way out and sprayed soapy water on it, and it is still leaking, just not as badly- confirming that my crank seals are likely good.
I just didn't spray water on it the first time with the operating rod all the way out.
Figured I'd tell you guys that.

I would not worry about it leaking out the KIPS cover. Here is a picture of one from Indonesia. My 2005 KX250 has a vent / drain hose on it. I think my YZ250 does also. They leak, and one must put a paper towel "diaper" on them to keep it from dripping on the floor when on the stand.

Good to know. So it shouldn't cause a lean condition then? Thanks!

Nah, may only cause a "leak condition". :-)

It gets pretty nasty under there.

Fair enough haha. Yeah mine was pretty disgusting when I first took it off 😂

Thanks! Still have a little while until first start. I've been meaning to strip down the frame, put some primer on and paint it, as well as the linkage and swingarm bearings need replaced. I have all the parts I've just been pretty lazy recently haha. Plus I sweat my ass off in the garage because of the humidity but I'll get there!

Yeah, I am in north Alabama. It was super cloudy and only 75 today, about to catch a lot of rain from the storm. It is tough to get out in the heat and humidity. Fall weather will be here soon.

Oh man! I bet there's a lot of great riding up there. It's been raining a lot here in Florida, (but pretty much always does until the fall haha). Hopefully I'll only be here for a couple more years. The riding down here isn't amazing but I work with it lol. I went up to the blue ridge mountains this summer and man was the riding amazing.

I ended up going riding in Ohio this summer as well and the place I went to was gnarly as all hell! It was awesome, but man was it hard on ya. I ended up knocking myself out on a hill climb 😂 Hopefully I can better my enduro skills once I move from here.

Again, thanks for your help through this. It's greatly appreciated!
