I just use soapy water as it's the final stage of washing it before reassembly, remember to do the same to the holes for the side exhaust valves

Disassembly begins tonight. Is it safe to take apart the kips with top end attached to bottom end? In terms of dropping anything? I’d like to start with the kips disassembly if possible. Noticed my shift shaft seal is leaking… I replaced that about 3 years ago. Was a pain in the butt. Thanks

Normally, if tearing down an engine, you start with the cylinder and work your way down and then in.

I tested the smoothness of the kips, took a good amount of force to break free from closed… and I feel some binding when opening and closing by hand, but not quite enough to stop the governor from doing its thing. I noticed it binds at fully open as well. The binding could have very well been slowing down the actuation. This may have been my problem all along but I’m still happy to go back to the stock ported cylinder regardless. I got the shift shaft seal out. Would it be dumb to use something like threebond 1211 around the metal part of the new seal when installing? I’m going to take my time and really make sure everything gets assembled nicely, making sure squish is correct upon reassembly.
