Currently getting the cylinder welded and hope that fixes it.

Guys here is the fix of my cylinder. Does not look the best but hopefully it holds good. It did have a big crack in it causing it to leak. He checked my cylinder top and head and all was flat. The weld is a bit ugly. Part of me wonders if I should grind it down and paint it but that's probably not the smartest because it will take away strength. The welder was a tad worried becasue he could not hit it from the backside so he hoped it holds.

What do you guys think?

No doubt in my mind that is going to hold just fine. It's hard to get a clean looking weld with aluminum casting. I say he did just fine.

If you're concerned about porosity of the weld, you might want to look into applying wicking grade Loctite 290 Threadlocker.

While designed specifically for thredlocking assembled fasteners, Loctite also recommends this product for sealing weldments and casting porosity. Loctite has a whole write-up on how to use for this application. Search online or contact Loctite direct.

Thanks, I think we should be good. Someday when its time for some replating i will look for a used cyl to have replated but for now I think this works.

As a welder I think he did a great job, I wouldn't grind or modify it in anyway, just brush the weld and whole cylinder with a brass wire brush, it wil blend in, unusual for it to crack there, freeze crack ?

I am happy with it. Maybe if I can find some spray paint close to the color of the cylinder paint I will paint it a tad.
