That is good that you could just order a new cap. Hopefully, they can get it to you sooner.

I would definitely give that tank a good rinse, and also still recommend changing out the petcock. It's got to be full of plastic bits and dust/dirt. You can take the gas cap off and the bike will run the same, its only a vacuum lock that would affect the idling of the bike. If you think you found the problem it has to be from a dirty fuel tank/petcock!
Glad to hear the bike is running good after the rebuild

I agree with PacificNW. My bike had a split stock gas cap when i bought it. I was anxious to ride so I would just put a gallon in it and tear around the work lot. It didn't have an affect on the idle.

OK so for posterity even though the gas cap disintegrated that STILL wasn't' the issue. It was actually the air filter! I went to my riding spot and it still wasn't idling so I took off the air filter and ran it and it started to idle fine and I could adjust it. I had cleaned it a while back and it definitely wasn't dirty but I did notice a lot of oil in the air box. I must have over oiled it.
Anyway..I ordered a new pre-oiled air filter and need to brush up on how to properly oil an air filter!
