Depends on where you ride. I ride nothing but singletrack unless on a race course. I rarely use 2nd gear unless it's something really technical. Otherwise, I'm in 3rd to 5th gears on most the trails out here.
yeh fair call - i guess when i read single track the most common is in the woods (kind of in his title), but desert single track is definitely higher pace

I had been running the 12/47 combo on our steep Oregon trails, lots 1st gear roots, rock and tree dodging. Once the new Sudco carb was installed and dialed in, it was able to pull 13/49 with ease.
