Jason should know if the shock could be shortened without looseing any travel length. But the reservoir tank is larger on the KX, so as the shock compresses, clearance may be an issue too.

skipro3, you may be able to take the KX spring off, set the rebound to full out counterclockwise, then see if it will fit while moving it through a range of motion.

From my experience with KX shocks, the shaft travel is definitely longer than a KDX shock, so one would have to have its travel shortened to keep the travel the same amount as stock. Well, unless of course you need 15" of travel in the back, with the back end sticking up real high. Great for uphills, not so great for downhills.

pretty much both, i want to be able to take the whole thing apart.

You shouldn't need any special tools. The hardest part was getting the springy rings holding the bladder part together. This is where I needed expereince I didn't have and bailed out to a pro. He used some pretty hard hits to get to those rings. He worked. I watched and gave (unheeded) advice. Start and proceed carefully. Ask here if you get stuck. Jason seems to be the only pro online here who gets paid to do this. I would pay for his advice by letting him do the job. $55 is fair. the rest of us can give advice for free. You'll get what you pay for usually.
