IMO, pretty much any USD fork after '96 will be a huge improvement over the stock KDX forks. Spend the extra $$$ setting them up and you can have any of them working great.

Yeah. I can't wait to try them out this weekend. I was surprised to find that there were only 6 large shims on the stack. I took out three and drooped the oil from 110 to 120 mm since I only weigh 150. Well see what that feels like over the roots

There was only 6 large shims cause someone didn't want to get beat
to crap all the time.
You very well may have made them too soft by removing 3 though.
My TC's on my 09 kx had about 18 or 20 of the large shims.
I removed about 6 of them although it was much better it was
still to harsh. I still need to remove some more.
