Wow, thanks Wibby. I had no clue how they actually pulled off those graphics on cars and stuff. Just goes to show you can learn something new, and cool, everyday!

I don't know why they couldn't wrap shrouds, they seem to be able to do lots of things

Ron Ayers lists them too, but at $66 & $55 respectively I think I would just buy some Krylon plastic paint LOLSS109 wrote:Cheapcycleparts also shows them available but Service Honda lists them as discontinued. I sent an email to CCP to find out.

I've never had pits like that in cylinders that I've had re-plated. They probably won't hurt anything though.SS109 wrote:
Question, is it normal to see pits in the cylinder? As you can see in the pic (the white looking dots) they are very noticeable. I can even feel them with my thumbnail.
For future reference, I use http://www.mt-llc.com/.

I had a KX-105 cylinder replated by US Chrome a few years ago. Mine came with a small note from them that explained that those "pits" are normal, and that they help retain some lubrication. I did not like them, though, and I never used US Chrome again. If I do a replating job on my KDX, I will use Langcourts.SS109 wrote:Another item arrived today. The cylinder that I bought on Ebay from US Chrome.
Question, is it normal to see pits in the cylinder? As you can see in the pic (the white looking dots) they are very noticeable. I can even feel them with my thumbnail. Also, I was kind of disappointed that there was still gasket material left on around the resonator cover area.

SS109, when you get the white shroud issue fixed.
I may have something you will be interested in.
Just as unobtanium as the shrouds... the correct
1990 white/blue shroud decal.... I had some
reproductions made for my bike and may have
a pair left with your name on them.
Keep up the good work. You will have a cool bike
when you are finished.
P.S. if you can't locate OEM shrouds. I have a pair
of White Maier shrouds that have never been mounted.
And a pair of new blue UFO shrouds with the reproduction
decals installed.

Yeah, but they are far from perfect, and would almost certainly need to be replaced again soon. Say.. right after the first time that old brittle plastic hits the earth. Might not be worth the cash + effort to clean and shine. I'd almost just buy the OEM ones. They would last a whole lot longer, for sure.

Talk about panicking over not accessing my favorite forum...
Well, I'm an idiot! I guess it auto-generates a reactivation email when you make changes. I have honestly never seen that before when I made a change. DOH! Thanks big time to nearma12. You rock!

On to more important, and less embarrassing, stuff.

Those shrouds on ebay look like they could be made to look pretty nice with some elbow grease. The only thing that concerns me is that crack.juliend wrote:You better jump on this before I do!

We talked about those decals a while back, didn't we? I would love to get a set from you. Plus, I'm drooling over those Maier white shrouds you have! Contact me via email and lets work something out!KDX200-E2 wrote:Keeping a close eye on this project.

SS109 "We talked about those decals a while back, didn't we?"
-----------------------------
Yes we did. I have the decals sitting right next to me. The Maier panels
I will have to dig out of a box in the garage.
Send me a note at jjwallace@earthlinkdotcom.
I am sure we can work out a good deal.
As for the Maier panels. I did not use them because I did not like
them very much. They are very thick and heavy. Made from a hard
plastic, almost like fiberglass. I thought they might be brittle in
a tip over. Plus they are not drilled for the mounting hole. There is
a recessed hole in the mold, but, you will have to align and drill
them. I can take a picture this coming weekend and send it to you.

FYI recently put new plastics on my E5 and found that a Mr. Clean Magic eraser worked well on my gas tank and older plastics where other cleaners wouldn't touch the stains.

Thanks for the tips!
I'm a firm believer in Mop-n-Glo. I have used it to save plastic lenses on goggles, sunglasses, etc. The stuff just works!
As for the sandpaper, I'm going to try to avoid that if at all possible. If they are minor scratches I'll be fine if the Magic Eraser can clean them out good.
