Cooling concerns...

Post by HRDROKN »

Looking at the 1999 KX vs 2003 KDX radiators, they look to be about the same in area/volume... the difference that stands out is that the KX has a lower crossover tube, where the KDX does not. Looking at this it would seem to me that the KX rads warm up the motor quicker and I can see why this is good for MX. The KDX rads are designed as a complete pass (kinda like a cross flow radiator in auto apps) offering ultimate temperature drop and slower warm up.

Anyone have any cooling issues and what set up are you running?

I was thinking that the best thing to do was to install a restriction orifice (maybe .250") in the lower KX crossover hose.... that would keep the predominate flow going through both rads as would be the KDX design.

Thoughts?

No cooling issues with my '04 KX radiators. I've been riding a lot in 95+ degree temps.

I haven't had (or heard of ) any issue with the KDX engine with KX rads on hybrids for what it's worth.

I agree. My KX rads keep my hybrid 220 cooler than stock. 2003 KX- 2004 KDX. Tha KDX constantly spewed fluid from stock rads from day 1. Stopped the day I converted to KX radiator.

Sure it wasn't the cap making the difference?
