I asked a couple more questions:

Need to send one in to be REwound..no advance exchange?

Any RMA sort of thing required?

Timeframe?

Got this reply:

i would need you to send me the stock stator, it takes two days once we receive them. no rma required just send them to the address below with a note.

I always have more questions...but I never said I HAD an OEM/stock coil. I don't know if the Electrex that's in there has the same core or not..if they were 'rewrapped' or indeed, completely different.

Maybe I still have my OEM piece lying around. That would be good. I don't generally throw parts away..but FINDING it is another matter altogether. I seem to remember some hard, heavy wrapped up 'thing' in my parts bin..... :hmm:

Maybe I'll wait on Inda's 150watter............ :grin:

I'd already emailed him twice..and asked 1/2 dozen questions. Figured that was pushing it as it was.

'Sides...it's not like there are a lot of options. RickyStator has done good by me in the past. They know their stuff. They're reasonable on everything else they sell. I don't suppose rewinding a coil would be any different.

Secret weapon? What...you got a big magnetic hammer to pound the wire into shape around a calcified hunk of Hubba Yubba Bubba Gum?

Well... I have about $100 in materials so if I can make one work as good or better... then I am better off. Also I will be able to rewind one much cheaper than what is available.

If your mower is nice enough to have a key on it...I've seen that as a cost cutting maneuver. On the bright side the bottom end destruction of a briggs and scrapiron when the crank comes to a sudden stop is rather entertaining. :mrgreen:

Well guys.... I have succeeded in having lighting coils made for the KDX that are good to 100 Watts! I have been testing a prototype for the last few days and I can tell you this thing is solid!

Anything above an idle and you have solid power like with anything without a battery. At idle, the stock 35 watt light will be at full power with the occasional flicker. So, I tested a 55 Watt halogen and had the same results. Next I tried the 35 watt stock light with the 55 watt halogen and it was dim at idle but a few hundred RPM's more it was at full brightness.

The bike ran allot better off the bottom and generally seemed peppier. This is probably the 3rd most important improvement I have made to my bike as far as running. Not to mention having a much better lighting system.

I am impressed with the outcome of this little venture. I will make them available to you guys as a kit. Screws, heat shrink, lighting coil and instructions.

The best part is that you keep your stock coil as a backup and there is no exchange. These are brand new, ready to install.
