My $400 KDX220

Post by DUSTY220 »

Hey yall, I picked up my first kdx recently.
Its a 2002 and I got for $400.
It needed a carb (was missing for some reason) and a few little things. But I have put about 80 bucks into it and she runs amazing.
I'm aware of the piston issues on the 220 so I will be checking soon to see if its got the stock one in it. Other than that I dont know a ton about these bikes, so any other advice/tips would be appreciated.

Welcome! Great bike and an even greater deal!

Since you know of the piston issue, just cover all the basic service things you would on any bike and you should be good.

Thanks!, glad to be here.
And I'm glad to know there isnt much else to worry about other than the piston issue 🙂.

Welcome and congratulations. That is very cheap in 2025!

Like he said, just general check out besides the piston.

That's a great price! Generally I think bike prices are dropping now due to multiple factors going into *WINTER,* the economy and inflation etc, but I've noticed that KDX prices still seem to be staying a little bit higher with many bikes asking price of $3,500 in top condition stock or modified.... In the KX 2-stroke groups, I'm seeing a lot of really great bikes for $2,200 or $2,500 in top condition. This really put things in perspective for me both on current market value of older two strokes as well as the KDX's viability, reputation, and iconic status as still one of the best trail bikes of all time...

Congratulations on the purchase!

I've been noticing a similar trend in pricing around me in Tampa. Makes me feel a tad batter about how much money I've put into my 200..!
