Look on the Japanese impex website for the parts diagrams to see what matches up. It had an engine number stamped into the crankcase when new. The engine number is important when determining what year.

This is an engine for KX 125 - A201. The A201 was made in 2001. It is a KX engine and is not a KDX engine.

The kx barrels have two cut out slots where the exhaust pipe springs hold the exhaust in place, my engine has two studs indicating the exhaust pipe bolts together, the kx head has some sort of engine mount brackets, mine does not have them.

It is just a shared part on the basket. The two studs for the pipe tell it is not a KX engine. To the right of the "KHI" might be where the engine number was stamped. If it was there and now isn't, that usually means it is stolen and ground flat by the thief.

Thank you for sending me the impex link

Yes I’m pretty certain at some point in its life the engine had been stolen hence no engine numbers, the person i purchased the frame and engine from had it in his shed for over 20 years, in England the insurance would have paid the original owner for the loss of the bike, no insurance company would want the engine back now, it is also possible the engine came from a Q registered bike, which basically means stolen and recovered, either way this was over 20 years ago and still leaves me clueless as to finding the year the engine was built, i can only assume someone put this engine in the frame, as back in late 90 early 2000’s it was as much then to rebuild a 2stroke as is in today’s market, for the likes of a kx,cr,rm or Yz engine, guessing the original 1993 kx engine has long since been stripped and parted off or binned.

It looks like a KDX engine, likely a 90-94 A series 125 SR. Dig through the Impex site and you may be able to cross reference some other part numbers to come up with the exact year.
