Re: Lectron
I have also talked to Smart Carb. I'm leaning that way. Lectron only seems to want to communicate via email. And I have way too many concerns to try to hash out over the keyboard. Not sure of the cost.

Re: Lectron
2001 KDX 220r I just installed the Lectron carb 34mm 2 days ago and HOLY CRAP, dude for real HUGE difference, Ive watched TONS of youtube vids on lectron reviews and some say a MAJOR difference like me and some say its just ok, not noticable, Let me tell you!!!
My bikes carb was stock and was the weak point on this bike, bowl was off and it leaked fuel bad if leaned over, started fine but idled high at first and took a while to warm up and ready to rip, it bogged until 5-7mins of warming up.
So I just put on lectron, setup from the factory and just installed and did NO changes or tweaks, it fits tight. I fired bike up and immediatley it idled like a dream, idles and sounds just like my KTM 300 (bike i had before)
So Im in colorado and its at night so cold in the 30s, (this would normall effect my old carb ) the bike only fired up and idled for like 2 minutes, I jumped on and ripped out of my driveway (pissed off neighbors sorry) and I shifted to 3rd gear, rolling very slow and Punched throttle, to my amazment, The Bike pulled the front end up and RIPPED, I screamed in amazmen as It feels way more powerful, so I stopped shift even hiogher to 4th gear, dead stop and rolled hard the throttle, It lifted front end and screamed, my bike rips like a 250 now and I couldnt be happier with the LEctron improving torque, clean clean smooth power, it made the bike run cleaner, better idle, easy starts (first or 2nd kick EVERY time seriosuly) WOW LECTRON was worth the money for me

Re: Lectron
and the Lectron was customized from Lectron to fit my KDX,, the slide was trimmed down, and it was DYNO tested for my altitude and riding conditions, the Lectron was a Plug and play and works amazing right out of box, not tweaks needed, only had to set idle and it was only a 1/4 turn

Re: Lectron
My question is if they make one that works for the 1987? I've heard there's an issue with the choke lever orientation as the 87 has it's lever on the right side

Re: Lectron
Legacy era Lectron Power Jet carbs in a 34mm should fit really well on a KDX200C without mods, although the intake spigot may be larger on the Lectron. They are tall carbs, but are slender.
SmartCarb makes awesome carbs, but the SC2 36 is both really tall and very fat. They don't fit a KDX200H at all.
SmartCarb were supposedly working on an SC2 35 specifically with KDX200H/KDX220 fitment in mind, which also should work on an E-Series and C-Series, although the choke will be on the wrong side for the C-Series. I doubt SmartCarb will be willing to make a one-off carb body with the choke handing switched to the air cooled side, so I think it's best to stick with the Lectron legacy era or HV / H Series Lectrons.
The existing Lectron Power Jet Legacy era carbs will be the only ones with the choke on the correct side for a KDX200C, FYI.
I don't think you need them to custom build a carb, but rather just simply modify the intake spigot diameter.

I just realized your reply was the only current one, with the others 3.5 to 5 years old...
Contact them and let them know the spigot diameter of your '87 KDX's intake manifold and stock carb. If you're using an '88 KDX200C3 flatslide Keihin PWK or it's correct 1-yr-only intake manifold, then the spigot diameter will likely be the same as a 1989-2006 KDX200 & KDX220.
Also, I should mention that I have a decent condition 1988 KDX200C3's Keihin PWK35 carb that I'd sell if you're looking to upgrade to the modern style of flatslide carbs. I believe the only major difference between it and the 1989-2006 carbs is the choke lever added to it in order to access the choke that's otherwise on the wrong side for the air cooled KDX...
If you decide against the Lectron, the '88 KDX PWK35 is still a MASSIVE UPGRADE over the ancient Mikuni VW round slide carbs that came on the '86-'87 & earlier bikes.

Re: Lectron
If I decide to go with the PWK, will the throttle cable need to be changed?
As of tonight, I've stumbled upon power jet conversion kits which I've never seen or heard of. Looked pretty interesting.

Re: Lectron
Yes, the throttle cable for a PWK is different than the round slide VM carbs. The '88 intake manifold boot is different also...
Although my friend with an '87 stuffed an '88 PWK35 into his '87 manufold, and used the VM cable with a rigged up stack of soacers to extend the housing length, although I wouldn't exactly recommend this type of job unless stranded in the middle of nowhere.
I was wondering if the '89 or '95 intakes might possibly fit on the '86-'88, but I know that someone reproduces the '88 intake manifold boots online, and I'm assuming an '88+ KX cable or '89+ KDX throttle cable will probably be very similar. In my experiences with mid '90's+ cables, KX use quick turn throttles with a pulley, which have 1" less housing length - giving 1" longer cable stickout. The KDX OEM throttles on 95-06 just have a curved cable guide and are around 1/2 turn throttles instead of 1/4 turn, using less cable stickout. So the cable needs to be matched both to the throttle tube and housing as well as carb type. I'd assume mist if not all KDX PWK-era cables would be your best bet, but check the rotation range on your '87 throttle assembly.
Let me know if you decide against a new Lectron, as I have an '88 PWK35 that I should sell, as I don't own an '86-'88, only two 220R's. I'm beyond maximum capacity on bike & parts storage space here, and need to force myself to clear out some unneeded parts snd some of my 1977-1980 Suzuki GS street bikes that don't see the light of day... I'd love an '86-'88, but would have to sell my '83 Suzuki PE175 Full Floater & '77 Suzuki PE250 to justify another bike, especially when I'm slowly looking for a '97 (or '95-'98) KX125 to build a 139cc woods/torque ported "KDX139R" ultralight woods bike...
