Reed Replacement with Rad Valve

Post by white91 »

I need to buy new power reeds for my 1991 kdx200, I have owned the bike for a year and it will be my first time changing them. It has a boyesen rad valve, I am wondering if you can only put reeds designed to fit in the rad valve or if you can use factory ones. I would prefer to ask here before buying. Thank you.

Welcome to kdxrider. It will need the rad valve specific reeds. Confirm before buying:

Would these work? They say superstock.

No, those are replacements for OEM reed cages. You need part# PSR-54. This info comes from Boyesen's website here: https://boyesen.com/p572737-rad-valve-r ... ?uid=10467

EDITED for correct part# and link

SS109 & KDX-G: how long do reeds last (hours, miles) before replacement is necessary?

PSR-54

is for KDX Rad Valve

The Boyesen site does not allow copy and pasting too well. It won't show properly.

billie, depends on how much revving one does I suppose. I assume they can flex so many times before chipping and cracking.

I thought that was what I ordered last time when I replaced them but Boyesen's website now says it is the ----. Curious how did you find it on there?

For longevity, yeah, I just check them each time I do a top end for any issues. Never had a set wear out where I knew all the hours on them.

So weird. I looked up the RAD valve for the KDX on the link above and then the replacement reeds for it listed at the bottom of the product page. I have edited earlier posts to remove the incorrect part number.
