radiator shrouds other than green?

Post by soup-n-sandwich »

Hi guys...what a challenge to find radiator shrouds for my 2002 KDX220R.
Originally I was looking for the 1999 white radiator shrouds with the plans on dying them to match the other plastics but the green plastic won't take the dye. I can't find black as it appears that nobody makes them and I can't find the white 1999 shrouds on ebay so I was wondering if anyone know if a KX shroud might fit the KDX if modified. I do need either black or white.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd try those part numbers on the CMSNL.com website first. This website may be like RevZilla and a bunch of others nowadays, where it'll let you order things that are no longer available or out of stock...

I've got a beat up set of OEM white '99 shrouds off my first 220, if you really want white and have no luck elsewhere. They're quite scuffed up but a lot of sanding and buffing would fix that.

No black shrouds exist unless you find an IMS tank & shrouds used. They may still offer black even, check the IMS Products website.

I just got a white radiator shroud from partzilla (my bike was missing just one). It was available and in stock (for my 2001 KDX 200)

Do you mean the screen? That screen is different than the shroud. (the big thing your knee hits)

soup, 99 or bust, no black that I remember

A guy got UFO to make 50 sets of purple. He is selling them. I bought a set. Glad to have them! You can get UFO to make white, but it is for 50 or so, something like that. He has a post on here.

Thanks guys!!!

I'm going to try all of the options you guys gave me. I just happen to try Partzilla first. I don't see any white shrouds, only green. I don't see a way to look up the 1999 model KDX200/220 specifically though. How did you do that? I think I'm looking for the KDX200H5 which is the 1999 model right? I had a 1986 and that was the H2 model.

I was curious about the black shrouds for the IMS tank but those shrouds are specifically for their larger tank and won't work on the stock tank.
Thank you guys so much for your input and help on this. I thought I was running out of options so thank you all!

Hey man,
I just want onto Partzilla to see if I could find the white radiator shroud. I went though all of the 1999 parts and didn't find it. Do you happen to have a part number for the ones you bought?

14037-1099-RZ ...... just looked it up, I would assume there's absolutely no difference in a 99 to 2001 bike. So of the search functions are a little wonky. Apparently it's the OEM part as well

That is the "screen".

https://www.partzilla.com/product/kawas ... 37-1099-RZ

The white shrouds came on the 1999 KDX200 and KDX220R, 25 years ago, "a quarter of a century ago". They are not available / made any longer / for sale.

thanks guys. Yes Mr. KDX Garage...you are correct. These white shrouds are not available. I've been trying to find these shrouds for almost three years now. I reached out to UFO plastics to see if they would consider making a run of black. I understand they would have to make a min. of 50 units but the rest would likely sell on ebay very quickly. Much like the also rare purple shrouds that came on the 1996 KDX200 that I owned.

I can't use green for this build so I have to find or make black or white where the white would be died brown. So far this is the only part I'm having lots of trouble finding. I'm not sure what do do but I was thinking, I have mold maker on the property with 20 years of mold making experience, using plastics, resins, latex and other materials...I think I'm going to talk with him about this problem.

Like I said, I've got an original pair of white '99 shrouds, but they are quite beat up. Still salvageable most definitely, but lots of scratches and scuffs that would need sanded/buffed out. Heat guns used with a lot of precision and caution can smooth the surfaces out again as well. If doing full overlay protective extra thick vinyl graphics, minimal work would need done. I always recommend the full coverage 21mil extra thick vinyl graphics anyways, as they protect the shriuds and side playes very well in terms of scuffs and abrasions.
