Connecting rod play

Post by Ecarta »

Fellow KDXers,
I recently popped off my cylinder for a top end refresh. But when I inspected the connecting rod play on the crankshaft it "seemed" excessive. There is no up and down play. But when I push the rod laterally it goes like 5 degrees or so.....seems sloppy to me.

What's the proper way to measure this play. I'd rather not spend a bunch of time/money cuz this is a backup bike and will rarely be ridden.

Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

I move the rod to one side & check for up & down for clearance. Side to side should have .40-mm .50mm clearance with a feeler gauge.
.70mm is the service limit. This is for H series.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

My connecting rod seems to "tilt" more that move left to right on the crankshaft bearing.

With that said I can only slip a .45mm (.018") feeler gauge in between the rod and washer.

Let me know ur thoughts!
