I've been storing a mates 04 KDX200 in my garage, never really paid too much attention to be honest as too busy with my vmx bikes... Until he offered it to me for sale. So had bit of a nosey at it, and after a bit of reading on here, it seems to have some of the desirable upgrades:

1) Pro-circuit Platinum II pipe with 304 silencer
2) RB carb or mod
3) KX or KLX forks, how do I tell?

No idea if anything else has been done.

So I reckon I'm gonna buy it.

Question: The fork protectors need replacing as the top bracket is broken and sliders pop out etc. Are the replacement fork protectors suitable for all KX\KLX forks? Or do I need to know what bike and year the forks are off before purchasing online?

Any other pointers appreciated, here's some pics of it, cheers.

Hi. With the lower clamp only having one bolt, they would be KLX. The fork caps should have only an air screw and not a rebound adjuster like KX forks.

Cool, thanks for that. From what i can see the KLX300 was made from 1996-2007 with no changes to the fork construction, therefore same fork protector for them all. Sound about right?

yes, may be 1994 - 1996 KLX250R also, as they mostly just upgraded the engine for 1997 - 2007 (USA wise)

Kouba Link stickers, you can check the linkage to see if it's stamped 112.5 which is the OEM unit

Hi Guys

What's the correct cable routing? Are the fork guards correct? I've seen some photo's showing the brake line going up the inside of the guard behind the slots, and others with a clamp on the inside to keep the line catching on the front tyre. Where the brake line runs now is how I got it, unsecured.

You have some KLX guards, but a KDX brake hose. Look up an internet search for "2007 KLX300R". Here is one I looked up. Look up the KLX300R parts diagrams also. The KLX300R brake hose and small pipe mount differently than the KDX hose allows. If you keep that hose, you will need to backyard engineer a solution.

On a KDX and 2004+ KX's, the hose runs to the inside of the left guard. Running it outside lets a limb grab it.

Cool thanks for the heads up on that man. Yeh I can now see the KLX has a shorter 2nd piece of hose going under and up the front of the fork.

Will do a "backyard engineer solution" and use a zip-tie for the time being.

I think the cleanest home made solution I saw was a rivited on piece. Someone on here in an old post had made it.

You mean a riveted on circular cable guide like on the upper tube by the headlight?
