Good news: I got the piston in the cylinder; my problem was overlooking that the lining-up spot on the 2nd ring was different than for the 1st ring.
Bad news: I broke one of the cylinder studs on the bottom end. I was only using 17lbs on the torque wrench, but I guess these studs have had a hard life. Any suggestions on places to look for replacement studs?
Low compression but rings, pistons, and cylinder look good

Never mind. Answering my own question: ebay has 'em, $10 - $20. Kinda pricy, so I guess I'll just replace the one broken.
