I did my first funduro this weekend. It is an enduro without the competition element...
Feeling guilty about cleaning the foam filter, I did it the day before the ride. As a rookie, I neglected to squeeze out as much oil as I can. So, when the ride was about to start, the bike did not want to. After swapping a plug, I was advised to open the throttle as I kicked. It started. The bike went "like a cracker" for the rest of the ride, apart from not idling too well.
This was also my very first ride in the "bush". I did not fall and I dd not die.
All I can think of now is how much better the bike would have performed if the filter was not so saturated.
For those of you bored enough to look, here are two videos of how it went. The route was not technical for 99,9% of the way.

Likely not oil in the filter causing your hard start. 2 strokes want that throttle opened when you kick it. As dusty as it looked, that extra oil wasn't going to hurt anything lol
Congrats on getting out there and not riding it like a nancy!

Re: my first real ride off road
Glad to have read this thread .. thanks for sharing! I was out recently for my first ride on the KDX. It was hard to start when hot. This is the first hint I've seen of 2T bikes wanting a handful of throttle when starting. Thanks! :)

No need for a handful, just a quarter or third. Welcome to the smoking section. :-)
