Q4: Stock piston? KDX220
I just removed the piston from my 2001 KDX220.
Is this the stock piston? It has an arrow and the letter C on the top.

Kinda looks stock/cast. Just about every Wiseco piston I've seen has quite a few numbers laser engraved on the top. What does the underside look like? Does it say 'Art'? (I think that's what the stock piston says, not 100% sure.) The forged Wiseco looks forged on the underside (not surprisingly ). IIRC, the Wisecos have a 'W' on the underside. I'm pretty sure that's stock; don't think it's a Wiseco.

I think it is stock, as OEM has the letters. Grab a sheet of paper from the printer. Place it on a shelf. Turn piston upside down and put on paper. You now have a parts holder. Please do not put anything heavy in the partsholder, as the parts holder has been known to shatter, especially when ran for 17 years.

Inside the skirt it says "SK" and "2". There is a checkerboard pattern underneath the top. It does look like a sandcasting with some pitting. There are sharp edges and ridges. But I do not see the letters "ART".Jim B wrote:Kinda looks stock/cast. Just about every Wiseco piston I've seen has quite a few numbers laser engraved on the top. What does the underside look like? Just about positive that's stock/cast. You're lucky that didn't grenade. The wear looks pretty minimal.

I am glad too! The bike only has roughly 1250 miles on it since new.

That is definitely a stock piston. Mine has the "2" w the other marks just like yours on the inside, and the arrow with the "C" on the top.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

So, I am in same situation. I need to replace OEM Piston in my 220. Are all the Wiseco pistons the same size? Or, do I need to correlate them with A, B, or C on my piston head?

I think Wiseco just makes one standard sized piston. They don't do A, B, C, D. The non-standard sized pistons that Wiseco makes are (just for example), 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, not 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 mm like A, B, C, D.lucy wrote:So, I am in same situation. There is one really cheap brand that almost everyone says to avoid. It might be Mitaka. I am not sure. Vertex, Wiseco and Wossner have good reputations. (and Pro-X, pronounced procks for some reason)

Is yours a 200? (I'm guessing so by your username.) The 200 pistons don't grenade like the 220 pistons. That's still a lot of miles on a piston.kx200 wrote:I too got lucky! I put 7500 miles on before I opened it up.
