building lower body stamina

Post by two-stroke-brit »

hi all, are there particular exercises a person could do to build the above, through the week when not able to ride.
would it be as simple as running up and down the stairs in the lunchtime or something like that.?

I think one of the best things you can do I see ride a bike. Push it though. Cardio and legs without the impact of running.

Rowing on a row machine is great conditioning for riding. Of course riding is the best.

Stairs were huge for me back when I ran cross country. I ran them constantly and it helped me tremendously.... but that was for leg strength in the middle of a long distance race.

If not going to a gym, Id do lots of stairs, crunches, push-ups and pull ups to held build core strength.

I'm just getting back into the gym myself. I'll agree with the row machine, its great for building the muscles used when riding, pretty much your whole back. Lately I have been trying to focus a lot on shoulder, chest, and back... areas that I know I need to improve upon. Everyone's different. After my first ride this year, I paid attention to what muscle groups were the most sore the next day When I go to the gym, I try to focus a little harder on those areas.

Rowing....and everyone's favorite- running. Keep in mind that to build lower body stamina you really need to work your core as well.

Running, which will help with cardio fitness also, squats, planking, chin ups, crunches and leg raises. As others have said, cycling is really good if your knees/ankles aren't up to running and rowing machine is great for building endurance in your shoulders and upper back.

Hi there,

im a part time MX trainer and with the kids i help out whether they are MX'ers or woods guys when are in the gym they spend lots of time on Row machine and a machine called a Jacobs ladder which is a like an never ending ladder machine and running though light weight cardio based circuits. i think i have once of our work outs typed up i can provide if you would like. one thing to look into also is if you are only wearing our your legs you could be doing something else wrong with the rest of your body causing excess fatigue on your legs.

hope that helps

if you're going back to the gym you might want to take a look at Athlean X on youtube, I did AX1 last winter and it improved my stamina a lot.
