Intake and reeds recommendation
So my stock parts have seen better days. Just got a bunch o' stuff replated, fixed and replaced though, and figuring I should update the reeds. 92 e series DX200. Recommendations? Need to replace boot between carb and cylinder also..

1. new OEM boot and some version of Boyesen reeds
2. Boyesen Rad Valve or Moto Tassinari VForce 3 (I am guessing they still make both)

If you need to replace the boot, get a Boyesen Rad Valve. It uses a different boot and the boot comes with the set up. The last one I bought came with the carbon reeds. I picked mine up for $100 as a factory 2nd and everything was new and perfect. Look for one on E-Bay, maybe one will come up. FYI, the Boyesen Rad valve PN# is the same for 89-06 KDX's (fits all E and H series US models).

I know FRP recommends the RAD valve, but I've seen some awful trash talk about it also. Experience?

Also, anyone that didn't like the RAD valve setup and went a different direction, want to sell it to me? Hehe. I'm really leaning towards it since I need the new intake.

I just emailed RB about this the Rad Valve. I was asking his thoughts on using the Rad Valve with his carbs and this was his response
" The rad-valve works ok, but there is very little to no rubber isolation from the metal valve and the carb. The very stubby piece of hose to connect them creates too much vibration into the carb and will wear out the carbs slide and the float pivot pin holes that are part of the carb body making the carb no good after awhile."
Take it however you want but its enough for me to choose another option.

So this rubber transmits more vibration that that rubber? And vibration kills carbs that are used everywhere for decades in high vibration environments? Hmm news to me.
I sure like the fit of it. Hoping to start the bike today after full rebuild.

Ok she started right up! Had to set the idle a little high until the rings seated. Then once it was warm at the radiators I took it out to play a little bit. Didn't take long for the rings to seat.
Yeooooow! It's such a fun bike. It'll power wheelie in 3rd. Wasn't expecting that!
Also changed a seal and replaced the fluid in the forks.
Speaking of forks, I'm running the front end from a 99 dr350 so I've got compression and rebound adjustment on 43mm showa cartridge conventionals - and I didn't need to do anything with the triples, just slid them right in.

Yeah sorry to be a Debby Downer. I just thought I should share the information for others who might do the mod. I agree, it's not the best environment for anything that might be sensitive to vibration regardless. Glad to see everything all went well and your out ripping around. We just got a bunch more snow up here and it's the wet slushy kind. Won't be riding anytime soon.

I didn't mean to get defensive. Just seems like an obscure way to rule out what Fredette vouches for. They both have a wealth of knowledge on the topic, though, and I needed to replace my intake boot as well so this is what I've gone with. I am in the same situation, followed the thread and answered as if I was a part of it all along. I instantly thought "wow **** move" after I posted it but I think it's good to have these discussions up on the forums. That is what they are for. Figuring out what works, what doesn't and what all the opinions are so people can make better informed decisions down the road.
My carb holder needs replacing either that or the Yamabod repair needs to be redone! None of the cracks go to the inside but as we talked about, there is allot of vibration and it could crack anytime and leave me stranded or worse. I was thinking about the RB carb so I asked him about the Rad Valve. Like you I thought of killing two birds with one stone. But he doesn't ship to Canada or take money from us either. I have a US address and could send him a US money order but it kind of settled any hesitation for me. Only one state separates us but it's his business he can run it how he likes. I will see what I can do with this carb in the spring, it gives me lots of low and a big hit but drags a bit in the mid range. It gets me around chasing KTM's all day. I go through Portland quite a often so I might just stop in buy one off of him for cash if I still feel the need by then.

Agreed. Discussion, opinions, and options are good.
That's the way my carb boot was as well. Reeds didn't look so great either. They got subjected to some pretty intense heat when I burned a hole in the piston, so I figured it was time to take a big step.
I do think about that air striker from time to time, but I just put so much into this rebuild that I'd like to ride a little and save the pocketbook.
