1987 KDX 200 Front End Questions;

Post by MCKDX220 »

I have inherited a train wreck of a project (87 KDX200) other than the motor and carb, everything else is down hill.

Given everything I have read the 87 forks are not worth the effort and should be replaced by something more modern,

unfortunately not to much right on CL to choose from in my area, so keeping "all" my options open.

Would not have a problem with a 95 - 04 KDX200R/220R, front end, I had KDX220 which I modified the

the shim stack on and it performed admirably. My understanding is it is a direct bolt on.

Several questions;

1) The electronic odo is toast, no electronic odo left behind, but wires and odo in place, is there a spacer available ???

2) I hate the klunky looking disc and front brake setup on this, will a modern 95-04 KDX 200/220R bolt right on ???

3) Is the 87 front end really that bad - ???

4) Is there an ideal front end replacement - ???

Thanks Michael !!!

Someone on here used wr250 front forks and just knurled the stock stem to fit. Look through aircooled build threads.
