1983 KDX200 Project

Post by Daxter3000 »

I recently purchased a 1983 KDX200 off the net for $180 and got told it didn't run and when it did it was loud (bearings) so i got it home sprayed some 'Start ya Bastard" on the air cleaner and away she went (VERY LOUD) and ran like a sack of **** and when i gave it a rev the whole front end vibrated more than usual. So i striped it down today Crank bearing seems fine (no up and down play) and so do the other two big end bearings, piston looks good so what was the noise?!?! and why was it running so bad?? The expansion chamber feels as thin as a coke can and has had many weld surgerys by the looks of it so that wont be helping, also there is something in the expansion chamber?? Quite big by the sounds of it? Packing of some sort?? Any help would be good!! Thanks in advance!!

i would bet it's a double wall pipe that has broken apart inside. pull hte pipe off and look, you'll likely see metal banging around in there.

you can inspect the piston and cylinder while it's off too, by looking in the exhaust port. congrats, that's cheap !
