Re: Kickstart fail
Bingo!....electric impact did the trick. Zipped it right off. And, yes, the dogs on the ratchet and ratchet gear look worn. I'll try to post a photo. Wish I could see unworn or nearly new ratchet and gear to see what it should look like.

Re: Kickstart fail
I bought my KDX new in 1992. Using the right oil is the trick. For me is conventional 10W-30 motor oil. Right now is Valvoline. The cheaper, the better.

Re: Kickstart fail
On second thought...these cogs don't look that bad. You might be right on the oil. The spring that pushes the ratchet to the ratchet gear seems OK. Has that spring ever caused the problem?

Re: Kickstart fail
So...I decided to re-installing the existing ratchet assembly in its current condition. But, follow the owners manual instructions to the T. And, as an experiment, put in 5W20 oil. It seems to be operating perfectly. I haven't gassed it up and started it yet. More later.

Re: Kickstart fail
All righty, then...Merry ,Christmas to me. My goal to get my E series to fire up via kick start has been reached. Figuring out and unfiguring out what the P.O. did or didn't do is often more than half the battle .

Re: Kickstart fail
I decided that this ratchet did not show enough wear to replace. I assumed that it was assembled incorrectly and tried thinner weight oil. It worked.
