kips advance lever broken

Post by KDX Geoff »

I'm mucking around with a '87 model 200 with a power valve motor of which l have no experience.

All the working parts of the valves and rack look to be in good working order and moving freely but the advance lever that connects the governor to the shaft up to the rack has broken off.

Why is that ?

Cheers

I will guess that it was reassembled incorrectly.

I guess these KDX's find you instead of you finding them.

Thanks Jason.

Is there no inherent problem that would cause this part to fail ?

Not that I know of. I just know it is easy to misalign during reassembly.

If the shaft is not supported when the nut at the top is removed then a large amount of force is put upon that part, which can cause it to bend or break.

I want to work out why this lever broke. A crack next to where the lever failed can be seen. The direction of the fracture looks like a force capable of flexing the lever was applied regularly until it failed.

That is a ridiculously artistic photo. I would frame that and hang it in the shop...

I've got a 90 kdx200 and an 87 same thing happened cost me 80 bucks for the whole lever and pin. If it happens again I'm just gonna jam the power-valve open.
