Howdy all,
So I have just a quick question...I'm installing new valves and was wondering if your supposed to lube them.....if so what do I use?
Thanks
Any help would be greatly appreciated....
I mixed half and half high-temp lithium grease and 2 stroke oil cause that's what I had, but depending on what manual you have usually it's molybdenum grease or just plain 2 stroke oil
Cool....I have a tube of moly chillen in the garage.....
I know this is a newb question but when you time the valves how are they supposed to look?
All three supposed to be open when you look up the exhaust and the kips rod is pulled out? All three closed when the rod is pushed in? Darn bike shop snapped the pin on one valve and broke the gear and pin off the other. They were supposed to just change my crank seals. Worse yet they assembled the motor and gave It back to me and said it had clutch problems. So I didnt get to see the orientation of the valves.
Anyways thanks for the advise
cheers
killabee

Yep that's the idea. With the rod all the way out, the punch mark dots on the two right side gears should be facing each other and the left valve mark facing toward the rod. There is a little mark on the rod that the left valve punch mark lines up with. The middle valve is just trial and error, it depends because there are two types of middle valves reported. But yep, rod all the way out = valves open
Looking at that diagram, and then looking at my kips valves, and it looks like the valves are supposed to be one big piece... Whereas mine are a few separate pieces...
Can I order these valves anywhere? Any idea what they are worth? The bike gets very little use thesedays, and I'm on a very tight budget, so the cheaper the better.

OK, according to many people on this site, the KIPS sub valves are discontinued by Kawasaki. Some people have had luck in getting some from Kawasaki. If you need news ones, I would save up and get these: http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... 15&t=17339
These should last way longer than the stock valves.
You can look for a decent used set online but they will probably be expensive. They are still listed as in stock on some sites like babbits (trust me they are not) and if you call shops they will tell you they can get them at first until they call you back two days later and tell you they are NLA. The only place I know to get a new set is from Brock at BDK engineering he is in the UK and it's a little expensive think I paid about $240.00 USD (shipping included) but they are beautifuly made, fit like a glove and worth every penny! Shipping time was only about 10 days, they were probably one of the most important parts in my rebuild aside from the new piston and rod.
