Crude 220 stock cylinder castings

Here's a couple pictures of my 220 cylinder I'm cleaning up before reassembling.

Notice how the stock left hand port has a casting piece that looks like it could break
off at any time.

Not saying everyone should attempt this or rush to tear their bike apart , just something
to think about next time you have the top end off.

Then after I start this project , I read all about the negatives of porting a KDX.

Thoughts ???? Oh well , gotta finish it now.

Like I said , I have no plans of altering the exhaust port , so it shouldn't kill the wonderful 220 bottom end.

The final finish is alot less shiney than this picture.
A new Wiseco and Head on it's way to RB .
I'm making a 5mm / 3/16 Intake spacer as the reed cage
blocks some of the air going to the rear boost port.
Too many changes ,

so I'll only be able to post an overall result.
14" snow here this week , so the bike will be in the basement for a few months.

I don't take that as an offense at all , I like experimenting , it's just no fun to
think what it may cost to get it back to stock.

I've learned a ton in the last week and I now know why people like EG say the 220
factory porting is screwed up . Yes and No ,,, it makes GREAT low end power for
the ultimate torque , just a totally unconventional design compared to the 200.

14" fresh snow here ,,, it will be in the basement for a few more months.

Got it out of the basement today.

Still breaking it in but so far it pulls real strong off the bottom.

RB'd head and other small mods I'm sure helped also.

Got to ride it some more tonight. A very noticeable difference in overall power.
It's a different bike ,, It pulls so much stronger ,,, BUT you have to remember that
I did the intake porting , installed a 3/16" reed spacer, new Boyesen Carbon Fiber reeds , RB experimental
high compression head " for 96 octane min. " , New Wiseco Piston all at the same time.

That head should net most of your gain.

I put the finishing touches on the engine tonight as I bumped the ign. timing to match the fuel.
Very happy with all the work and combination of mods this winter.
Smooth linier power any where you want it.

I'd only do this again if your going to send the cylinder out afterwards for a replate.

The stock electrofusion coating is too easy to chip.
