The kill switch is a momentary contact push-to-close switch that is wired in parallel with the exciter coil. When the switch is pushed the ourput of the exciter coil is shunted to ground.
I'm still pretty certain there is something basic either missing or misunderstood in this thread..with this issue.

open (normally closed) kill switch is just plain stupid..and I would have to see it to believe it.
Switches do fail..and the environment a dirtbike is used in is usually just plain nasty! Do you want a bike that won't start when some cheapo crap switch has some dirt in it?
Such a switch cannot be 'reconfigured.' Completely changed to something different? Yeah..but not 'reconfigured'.
