Kill switch headaches

There can be three switched 'states'. A couple of wires may be switched 'on' (connected) or switched 'off' (disconnected). In the instance of logic wiring an input that is not connected to anything 'floats'. Depending on what it's tied to that may be seen as an active input..even though it is tied to nothing.

It's generally considered bad design, but you can 'float' an input to a logic device (tie it to nothing) and have it sensed as active or valid.

Generally you make the input go one way or the other..either tie it to a pullup (to a + voltage) or pulldown (ground for example...maybe a negative voltage).

I included the idea of 'float' just in to cover the possibility.

In this case, it would be VERY unlikely to have anything to do with it.

Now an easy one - What does my kill button do? Does it close or open a circuit? Why does it "kill" the bike?

Trev-Do you know anyone who is an electrician?Maybe someone in the area knows a trick how to re-configure that switch

The kill switch is a momentary contact push-to-close switch that is wired in parallel with the exciter coil. When the switch is pushed the ourput of the exciter coil is shunted to ground.

I'm still pretty certain there is something basic either missing or misunderstood in this thread..with this issue.

Having a push-to-open (normally closed) kill switch is just plain stupid..and I would have to see it to believe it.

Switches do fail..and the environment a dirtbike is used in is usually just plain nasty! Do you want a bike that won't start when some cheapo crap switch has some dirt in it?

Such a switch cannot be 'reconfigured.' Completely changed to something different? Yeah..but not 'reconfigured'.
