There was a 1980 IT175 on the local craiglist a few days ago, but it is gone.

You could try having a vinyl shop reproduce the tank sticker. Make sure they put holes in it for the gas vapor to escape.

there is a set of proper stripes on the bay for about 29 bucks

Yep, those are the ones I'm looking at!

Well I haven't worked on the bike for a few days now, got my first ever hare scramble race coming up next Sunday and trying to find any free time this coming week to get my KDX and my buddy's XR 200 prepared. But in the meantime I've managed to make my own fuel tank breather, haven't snapped any pics yet but it looks real nice. Also took a lot of slop out of the kickstand, and opened up the plastic ignition cover and took off the flywheel and cleaned everything in there. It was super dirty/dusty, turned out over half of the gasket was missing and let all that dirt in! All the components are still in great shape, I haven't tested the lighting coil to see if its still good so I can maybe get running lights again. The exhaust is heavily carbonized, probably 1mm or 2 caked up on the walls of the pipe and silencer. I'm sure that if I broke all this off I can get more performance out of this bike, I took off all the carbon before the first bend on the pipe and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. Fork seals are indeed leaking, and the dust seals look impossible to take off without damaging them. If someone who has experience with these forks chime in and give me advice on how to take these things off would be greatly appreciated. Shift shaft seal leaks oil and needs replacement, and Im gonna need to order an exhaust gasket. I probably wont get to work on the old yamaha til next week, but Ill keep everyone updated

The grass in the bayou behind my house finally got cut, so now I made a better vid of the old IT. I take back what I said earlier, this bike actually is kinda quick once it hits powerband. You can hear it in the vid:

You don't need to split the cases to replace crank seals.
I have an IT 200, very similar.
reviving old war-horse.
