OVERSIZE TANK

Post by torgo »

Does anyone know if anyone makes an over sized tank for my KDX200-E5?

Two reasons. I have it plated and want to run some Dual-Sport Events, and I also want to do some desert riding and the stock tank is only good for about 75-90 miles depending on the terrain. I hate to have to pack an aux tank around.

OR is there a tank from another bike that will fit?

Thanks
:?
Sorry honey it was an impluse buy.

I haven't tested the theory, but I'm pretty sure you can use a clarke 3.9 gallon tank for kx500.

I haven't seen it done, but the kx500 and kdx E series frames are almost exactly the same, and most the plastics switch right over.

Did this ever get verified? If so, what years match up? I have an H series, so might be out of luck. But looks like you can get a KX500 tank for around $80 and under pretty easily used on Ebay.

When I researched it myself, the KX500 uses different radiator shrouds than the KDX so you would have to buy KX500 shrouds. Probably have to play with how the shrouds mate up with the radiators as well. Mounting on the tank was also a little different I was told. How much different I really don't know as I never pursued it any further. The stock E-series tank is a pretty big tank to begin with.

Hmm, interesting... This might be a job for loading up the bike with the tank off on a trailer and taking it to the local salvage yard and playing around one day.

I think with KX500 tank, shrouds, and seat, it would be a pretty bolt on affair. Might need some brackets for the shroud mounts. I never verified, but I believe it would be an easy swap. Of course the KX5 tank and shrouds are butt ugly, lol!
