kick starting a bike

Hi guys,

i just want to know if anyone could give me some more advice.
The problem i have is that i can kickstart my bike and it will start after the 4 or 5 kick.
but after i stop the bike and try start it again i really struggle.
i have cleaned the spark plug but still the same.
does someone have something idea of something i can try?
i would really love it if i could kick start it every time, less then 5 kicks? hahaha

A clean and well adjusted carb will go a long way when it comes to starting.

Yeah, good carb cleaning/adjustment, clean filter, tight boot connections. You want to make sure your intake system is good. My bike starts 2nd kick even after sitting all winter.

Your bike has NO buisness sitting all winter...why...i rode your old plastic through 2 feet of snow yesterday just to keep the juices flowing ;)

Ill just take a guess but hows the compression. Maybe you need a new top end or crank seals. Correct me if im wrong. Im also from S.A

Up and over here in the Pacific NW we have pond monsters and snow yetti's. They come out of there dens in late October and sometimes don't return to there grotto's until July 5th. Had same issue, hard to start. I pulled the flywheel cover and oil and gas poured out. Cleaned with electrical parts cleaner and reinstalled cover. She started first kick. Time for a bottom end rebuild for me.

LOL...That's why I try to get over the other side of the mountains in the winter, but that's when the burrowing tumbleweeds come out, dig big holes, then jump in them to make it look like solid ground!

Compression check would be good to do, as well as checking the CDI/Magneto...oh and something dumb like spark plug gap can bite you as well

Hey all,

Well what i ended up doing is giving the carb a very good clean and it kicked first time.. So happy..
The Funny thing is i never cleaned the carb before, didnt think it got that dirty inside... i was so wrong... lol

Glad you got it sorted...you'd be surprised at the amount of crud that gets past the air filter, makes checking toe boot and clamps all the more important, especially if you ride anywhere really dusty.

LOL the first thing you get when you join GS Resoures with this kind of problem is "clean your carbs and not half way either".Think about a rack of 4 VM26 carbs off a 78 GS1000 varnished to immobility,yeah carbs get dirty and worse.
