1980 kdx 175 silencer repack

Post by skippypinecone »

Currently in the process of getting an old kdx 175 back on the trail and need some help with the silencer. Pulled the inner part out of the housing and it seems that the inner baffle that needs to be packed is brazed to the tail piece. Any one have any experience with one of these? Don't know if I should cut the braze and pull it apart, it seems to be the only way to get it packed. Is still one small chunk of packing floating around inside and I pulled about a 6 inch section of what looked like thin mechanics wire out. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have no direct experience with the silencer you are dealing with. I have, however, dealt with situations where a silencer which contains packing is brazed or welded together. Pics would help, but sight unseen, I would say cut it open cleanly, in a way that you will be able to rivet it back together. Clean, repack, and put back together. You have now made yourself a rebuildable silencer.
