KX500 wheels

Hi guys,

I recently put some fresh tires on my KDX200 (1991) with KX500 front fork.

Offcourse I don't want to trow my old tires away so I'm planning to make them into ice racing tires..
Now I've stumbled upon a set of KX500 wheels (1993) but do those wheels fit in my KDX ?

And what kind of skrews would be best for ice racing?, I don't want to buy special ice racing skrews because they cost a fortune

You can try some hex head sheet metal screws but you better get a lot of them. And don't ride in front of anyone. Ever. They are cheaper but don't last very long at all, and they tend to snap the heads off or pull out all together.

In the end you will wish you just bought some cold cutters or similar. They don't cost that much in the end and they should last a few seasons if you take care of them.

If you get a 19" rear rim for your bike make sure you get a small tire if you want to put screws in it. I have a 19" rim for my bike and with a normal (KX250) size tire there was not enough room for the side knobs to clear the swing arm if they had screws in them. I am probably getting a Fredett rear ice ire so I will see if that can be made to fit in the swing arm.

Are you looking to ride the ice as in frozen lakes or ice as in ride the woods when they are icy and have snow?

My bike is an H and I just noticed you are refereing to an E so there may be a little more room on yours but I don't know.

If you are riding lakes then do a search for Kold Kutters. They have normal and Kanadians. The Kanadians have a taller head that may help. Also you will want the longest screw you can fit into the tire and if you are serious you may want to look into getting liners for tires aswell. Alot of people make there own out of old street bike tires. Then you can get a longer screw.

You just need heavy duty tire spoons and a bit more air to get the bead to seat.
