I was going to try to get a KLX...but I think I will get a 220 KDX instead for the spare. That way I can ride which ever depending on the terrain. This will be much more cost effective.
Ski... what are the "green" requirements there in Californistan? Just a year cutoff or what?
I will always run a spark arrestor since I am a responsible rider... heck, might even go for the "Q" on the 220! Of couse it will have a KX frontend on it by spring and a RB modded carb.
2 strokes are still cheaper to purchase, maintain and smoke 4 strokers...

As an out-of-state visitor, just have your registration with you. If your state doesn't register OHV's, then a vistor registration costs about $10 and is good for several days. S/A's are mandatory. So are helmets.
Green sticker is cut off at 2002 when the California Air Resources Board (CARB) made ti manditory that all vehicles meet emissions controls. That was in 1999. Due to screw-ups, it took until 2003 to work out the registration details so 2002 and older bikes are grandfathered in. It is possible to get a green sticker on later model bikes than a 2002. Just have the manufacturer build it to pass the emissions controls. There's a few that do.
S/A quiet. The FMF TurbineCoreII (not the Q) tests on my KDX220 at 88Dbm sound pressure. That's pretty quiet. Now days, I just roll up to tech inspection before a race and they just wave me through. They are getting their ear educated to how loud 96Db sounds.

Spark arrestors are required. Silencers not acceptable.
Memorial Day 'round here is usually on the cool/damp side. If you have a routine of 755/756 tires for wet/dry...bring wet.
So my S12 should be fine then?

I'll be ready the KX won't have it's clutch back though. (I don't think)
The KDX will be ready, the gas cans ready, etc....
I still don't know if Doug is coming or not, but most likely not. He has some Scottish thing to do that weekend I think.

You've said three or four times that Doug isn't coming up....which leaves me with only one question of course...
Is Doug coming up?
Just checked...agin....Prospect is OPEN!! Again, too, they can't say, 'Yes, it will be open next weekend.' All it takes is a thunderstorm up there...a few thousand bolts-a-volts and everything could change in a 'flash' so-to-speak. har har
Thunderstorms up there are usually wet, though. That helps.
....a 'Scottish thing'? He's forsaking a bag-o-pipes for bike ride? WELL.....

The latest news for Doug is that he has a new frame that predates the green sticker cutoff for California and is going to swap the frame out. But, before he does, he's getting another bike so he's not without a ride for that period. I think he's looking for a Husky or Husaburg now. It was going to be an ATK. I don't know what happended to that plan.
I'll let you know when we show up if he's coming!!!

If you are off on Saturday morning at 2 am, that would work. A little coffee and you be fine. I'll make room in my tent for ya big guy. Just crawl in!!! Ha!!!
If that is Sunday 2am before you are off work, then we will still be here for a ride or two. I'll probably take off like I did last trip: Somewhere between noon and 3 pm. Closer to noon if you ain't making it; more like 3 if you are.
It just won't be the same without ya!!! Call in sick! Have an on-the-job injury, tell 'em your pregnant!!! Just go riding with us!!
Free beer, free food, fresh wimmen. (skip the last, I'm not sure the wimmen will fresh by Sunday) Ha!!!
