trying to decide

Post by kawie »

ok i have a 2000 kx250 that im trying to rebuild from the ground up but keep losing interest.
heres a thread on it.

http://forums.everything2stroke.com/sho ... hp?t=36078
what im trying to decide is do i want to pick up a 99-2001 kx125 frame an do a hybrid out of what ive done with my 2000 kx250 or i also have a spare frame an swingarm for my 04 kx125 to start a hybrid with that.i love the motor in the kdx but the ergos an size are kind of goofy when all ive had is mx bikes.with the kx125 i have to be on it an abuse the clutch all the time an with the kx250 i have to be carefull with the throtle all the time to keep me out of trouble.kdx motor seems to be the perfect blend of both 125 an 250.
back to my question.you guys that have these hybrids 99-02 an 03-05,witch one makes the best hybrid handling, ergo, size wise ect...ive never riden the 99-02 bikes so i dont know how they feel an i love the way my 04 kx125 feels.just looking for some feed back on these bikes.
thanks

I believe they are quite similar (from what I've read) and all the difference is really going to be in the suspension (you'll need a re-valve anyway).
The 03 is said to turn better (rake is different or something) in the wood.

I posted over at TT but will say it here as well...

I'm pretty sure the whole front end should swap over no problem. I think the rear wheel should as well. The plastics are different between those years so I don't know. I don't know if they changed seats. You can always try just bolting it on to see. I would bet the 250's airbox won't work so you need one from a 125. You'll also need to use the KDX's CDI box.

what i was thinking was to swap out the 250 frame for a 125 an build a hybrid out of my 00/01 bike.im looking at 99-02 125 frames on ebay right now as this is the root i think i might take.the 04 frame an swing arm is all i have to start with an i would have to get plastics, gas tank, wheels, brakes ect... to finish so i think im going to just get 125 frame for the 99-02 bike an do a hybrid this way.my 00/01 roller i have about $1800 into now without even touching the motor an that needs a complete rebuild an plate job.this was going to be my nice bike but ive kind of lost interest in the 250 smokers.

I don't know so I'll ask.

How much difference is there between a 125 and a 250 frame? How much weight and size?

I do realize the 250 frame probably has a bigger hole to stick the engine in but other than that?

higher weight and stiffer suspension I believe.
using a 250 frame would not save you any weight compared to the kdx imo

Just to be clear, higher weight = total weight and not the feel as far as center of gravity right?

total weight. and I would GUESS the feel of CG would be higher too. I can't think of anyone doing a 250 hybrid, must be a reason.

size wise the bikes are the same same.i dont think there is much difference in weight between the 125 an 250 frames.bottom of the cradle is different.
