Emkwynn Spring Question
220 El Bees with gear ironically. I'm also looking for stronger fork springs (.45kg/mm-ish), but my 220r came with '92 era KDX250 usd forks. So I'm doing the weight calculation dance on racetechs site between models. Looks like stiffer springs are a rarer bird, but I can grab a shock spring from our Canadian darling FortNine.ca
I feel I'm following in the same steps as Goat, I'm getting better on the bike, but it's just not meant to take the weight that I'm putting on it...

Re: 5.2 Spring - Holy Weaponry, Batman
What is your skill level / age / intended terrain? 5.4 may be what you need.
If you can find some fork springs for a 1993 - 1995 KX125 / KX250, they will work, just need a roughly 3 mm washer. I would look for some .46, maybe even .48. A current YZ250X is a few pounds lighter than a KDX and comes with .44. Light spring and heavy damping went the way of the dodo bird. Stock KDX250 springs were 0.35 Kg / mm . HORRIBLE (even worse than 1995+ KDX, as the bike is a good bit heavier. Ask my back how I know. :-)

Intermediate trail rider, 43yrs, single track, trails, trials obstacles.
You’re reinforcing everything I’ve read on here and other sites. I can’t be sure the springs are stock but when the oil rings on the stanchions are an inch from the bottom of the tube, I know I need something firmer.
Thanks for the tip on the early kx 125/250 springs. I’ll do a bit of searching.
Cheers
(And sorry for the hijack, Goat)

Goat is super easy to get along with. He ain't stressing about it. Throw up a quick reply to this post. I will split out our conversation and make your own thread in the 1995+ subforum.
I think the aftermarket springs for those KX years were around 486 or 487 mm, depending on who made them. They hardly ever show up on eBay, though. Race Tech 3949.
Eibach 997 were for KDX250, 500 mm long (gave 10 mm of preload) (internal length I measured at 490 mm, hence the need for a 3 mm washer for RT KX springs or 4 mm for Eibach KX springs (model 989).

Re: 5.2 Spring - Holy Weaponry, Batman
I’m about due for some new fork oil, so I’ll pull my springs and see what I’m starting with. You’ve given me a lot to read up on! It’s appreciated.

I do, that’s just after I put her back together two years ago.. I hadn’t yet figured out where the forks were from.
