Aftermarket Reed Cage Replacement Reeds?

Post by arkdxrider »

So I was putting my motor back together, and was getting close to finished... And realized that the reed cage I have appears to be a Boyesen aftermarket reed cage... And the reeds are cracked/chipped so putting them back in service is not an option. A while back I had ordered a new set of reeds, but of course they're for the stock reed cage and won't fit (have 3 holes rather than two).

Does anyone know a way to confirm what reeds I need? If I had to bet I'd say I need the Boyesen PSR-54, but I don't want to buy yet another set of reeds I cannot use...

From Dennis Kirk: "To determine if you have a RL or RR Rad Valve, look for a stamp RL in the casting; the RR Rad Valve does not have a stamp"

They show two versions of RL reeds, one carbon fiber and one nylon (whatever they are made of). The Boyesen site hows a different part number than Dennis Kirk, so be sure to double check before ordering.

The housing is stamped 14XA... I'm guessing either the PSR-54 or the RL-16 reeds will both work, with the PSR-54 being the "Pro series".

I emailed Boyesen for clarification.
