Stuck rear brake pin

Post by tucker »

Hi guys

I want to swap out my rear brake pads, however one of the pins has been stripped by the previous owner and I've tried drilling etc with no luck.

Do you have any tricks to try before I just drop it in to the shop?

Cheers

Had the same problem with my 89 originally. Buggered it so bad trying to get it out that I ended up replacing the rear caliper.

I used an EZ-out. Drilled a pilot hole, then went to the EZ-out. I replaced my pins with the set from rmatv that have a standard hex head.
The pins need to be lubed too.

Stuck rear brake pin

Penetrating oil & 24 hours can do wonder's. Liquid wrench, Kroil, or my favorite, 50 /50 mix of acetone & transmission fluid.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Can you put some vice grips on the pin portion, that goes through the pads? Maybe you can clamp onto that and rotate it out?
