where to ride in central Michigan

Hey guys,

I grew up in Michigan but spent most of my days on an MX track. I recently bought a cabin in the Harrison area (just north of Clare) and was wondering where to ride around there. I know leota and gladwin are close, anywhere else right in the Harrison area?

thanks

You are like 10 miles from Leota and Denton Creek trails. How much closer do you want?!?!?

Evart is good and only about 30 miles from you.

Many of us can only dream of being so close to trails. I was spoiled for a long time, being able to ride from home or trailer just a few minutes away. Now it's 80+ miles to get to a trail, or much further to get to trails I really like.

Michigan DNR trails rock. Best soil I've ever ridden. Hope to get back north (Gaylord) this summer.

No I certainly know that leota is close, just wasn't sure if there was something else right in Harrison I wasn't aware of. I like the technical stuff and I remember Evart from a long time ago with my dad. Looking forward to getting the 200's out very soon! I guess where the cabin is at does kind of spoil me huh....

I'll ride Big Bear and Crapo Lake loops for you this weekend. Wolverine in a few weeks. Some of my favorite stuff.

If it makes you feel better, it's 49 and has been raining all day so far. Looks like it will be a cold and wet ride. The worst part though? DR650 with stock trail wing tires. Took it for a blast around the farm last night, everything was wet grass or greasy clay. Holy crap this thing needs knobbies!

Yeah, is say knobbies are a good call. May and 49 is but a distant memory after living in Texas for the last 30yrs.

Only rode Big Bear loop. Brutal, exhausting, beat me to death.

Not that the trail is tough, but slick sections of mud coupled with Trail Wings made it like trying to ride a gymkahana course on a goldwing on freshly zambonied ice. The rear I can deal with, but I nearly lost the front end probably 100 times. Finally lost it at one point and got ejected as the bike climbed a tree. Suspension is bad and power is low, but neither of those mattered with the horrifying tires. I'm at least picking up a front knobbie to swap on for trail rides.

Otherwise fun. Way out of shape. Stock grips far too hard. Huge holes in gloves and bloody blisters. May have been entirely different in dryer conditions.

We plan to roll up to our family cabin in Gaylord (on lake Teacon) the week of July 4th. I'm taking all the toys so as the date draws near (and if you are available) It would be fun if me and my son could ride the loop with you. Always good to ride with a local...especially since I am no longer one!

I caught up to a group and followed a KDX for a short while till I ejected. A few minutes of trail from about 2 hrs of riding.

Nice looking trail. I hate it when the trees grow arms...
