Make it a dual sport 650. Have you seen those? Great for getting from trail to trail, even if the trails are 100's of miles apart!!! It's my plan to get one when I retire in a couple years. Which one are you thinking of?

Kawi is finally making a bright green 650

Has a nice big tank too.

My DR won't go 100's of miles between trails, unless I can find Carvrs beer and gas stash again

Thanks for the mention, wibby. I see it on the buykawasaki site, and it is indeed no longer the dark green. It has a 6.1 gallon tank!!

Old shool 4-stroke would be kinda cool to have. BTW, here's a vid of my buddy racing a heavily modded KLX300 (cam, headwork, carb, etc) w/ his 92 KDX (pipe and silencer only). This guy races A-class hairscrambles on his 300, and absolutely loves it. Not something you see/hear everyday! The KDX still ate it.

That's a sweet ride Ski. :partyman: My riding buddies that keep thier MX bikes jetted are good for about 45 miles here in the desert ST with the stock 2.2 gal tanks. Heck, since I'm only good for about 30 miles a 1.5 gallon tank would work for me.

I'll have to do some late night wispering in the wife's ear and see if I can slowly get her attuned to the idea of letting me do some roaming. It would be great to be able to hit the midwest and the "Mythical state of Jefferson" to meet some of you in person. I wasn't able to convince her to let me bring the bike on our vacation to CO, but then again, I didn't have much lead time on that one.

Maybe we can get a fund going to get KAY DEE EXER a few loaner bikes. I've never been down under.

Robb... plan on the LBL ride next year.... you got a whole year to plan that! Memorial Day at CC's place. It's only 2 rides a year!

To get to LBL we have to drive 4-5 hours to get there so it's not exactly in my back yard.

I would love to ride in your riding area too! I'd love to ride the desert or is it dessert?

fuzzy, nice video. Power to weight ratio...power to weight.

Also, I don't want to lift a heavy bike off me, out of a rut, loading it up, etc.

These KLX's are bullet proof according to all the info I can find on them. A perfect backup/loaner bike. And they can be made to perform quite well for about $800. New pumper carb, Stroker header pipe, suspension work. Not a big deal just throw some money at it. And they only weigh a few more pounds than a KDX.

The perfect thumper for me! :supz:

222# KDX
233# KLX (mostly in the silencer)

What is the weight of each wet, and with a full tank?

Tank capacity is the close but wetwise the KLX should be lighter.

Should be the same offset Jason, the only thing a thumper has is engine oil which it uses for clutch operation usually and as I recall from my XR...it was about a quart.

Maybe I didn't word that properly. It was supposed to be two questions. Would you happen to know what each one weighs wet? Would you happen to know what each one weighs wet, with a full tank of fuel?

I don't have a scale to weigh mine and I don't have a KLX. Does that help?

I was never trying to compare the two... I just think it would be a great backup/Loaner for a couple of reasons.
1. Jetting is usually not an issue, and can take it to the desert or mountains with minimal changes.
2. Uses plain old gas
3. Should go longer between rebuilds unless I drop a valve from overreving.
4. I can smoke whoever I loan it too!

What better backup bike is there? :supz:

Sorry... didn't mean to get off subject... I was just thinking about accomidating someone if they wanna ride with us mid-country.

If Fuzzy has the KDX and I have a KLX then we could invite a couple of guys to ride with us. Simply fly in and ride.

It's the fastest way to plan an exotic vacation! That means you too Trev!
