14/47 for me. My bike is plated and I need the high gearing for the street.

13/46 with a 19 inch rear rim until today now 12/46 still with the 19 and from a quick squirt up and down the drive seems to have a lot more zap

Whaa,whaa,whaa,wha....I look down at my speedo as i just tapped into 4th and it says 29 mph !?![/quote]
Perhaps he was carrying his front wheel during all that whaa,whaa,whaa,wha.... ??

Anyhow, I run a 13/49 in mostly single track tight, rarely open trails with lots of good steep climbs, roots, rocks, ditches, creeks, logs, the good stuff.

Im running a 15/47 combo as my bike is plated. Tops out at 78Mph by my Trail Tech Speedo, front end gets a bit sketchy though after 70Mph
Even with this tall gearing though the bike is still easily managed in the trail it does heat up quick in tight trails on hot days. As long as you keep an eye on the temp gauge though she's all good!

I'm thinking I might actual switch to a 13/47 setup. 1st is already a granny gear and with a fresh engine with some additional mods I think I would be fine. Reasoning is I would pick up a little top speed that I need out here in the dez to run against the big 4T's.

Just installed new chain and sprockets today. Went with 13/48.

BTW, 108 is the correct chain length. For some reason I ended up with a 110. Don't know if I was shipped the wrong chain or if I ordered the wrong size or if I thought I needed a 110 when I ordered (I've had the chain several months). You can easily use the 110 with 13/49 sprockets and probably 13/50. I'm going to have to take it back off and cut it to 108.

Bought a new set of front and rear sprockets and chain (110)

13/50 with a 110 chain will not fit.... So it is 12/50 till the chain loosens up a little.

It had a 12/47 set and a really stretched chain...

I have 2 KDX's, a 1990 and a 2001. I've been running 13-45 on both of them up untill now. Gonna try a 13-48 on the 01 next time. Just don't want to loose too much top end. Alot of the hare scrambles here in Florida are pretty fast.

Ran a 14/47 and it was too high

13/47 felt pretty good

if its too low ill throw the 14t back on the front

How many chain links are needed for the 13/49 combo?

I regeared my KDX to a 14/45 combo. I know it seems a little tall but I seem to ride mostly faster stuff, plus it's plated for the street.

FWIW I used a 110 length chain and I was able to use that length for my 13/48, 14/48, and 14/45 sprocked combo's.

Funny, I'm running the same gearing yet I think the 110 chain is way too short. My rear tire just touches my swingarm on the left hand side with just barely enough slack in the chain. I wish I had gotten a 112 link chain. I think I will go with a 47 (I thought that is what I bought for my build but somehow I messed up) just to get a little more space between the tire and the swingarm. Anybody have an idea of how much space it would give me?

What sprocket set are you running ??

This website will help you with that question. It will show you length adjustments as you swap sprockets. http://www.gearingcommander.com/

Thanks. I had never paid attention that it would show that info. Looks like I could gain 8mm of clearance and that would be about perfect.

Just recently changed from 13/47, to 12/47 to get a little more power down low. I ride mostly tight woods stuff. Not sure whether I'll keep it this way or not. Need to ride a few more times before I decide which I like better. 12/47 is very low. I can come almost to a complete stop in 1st gear without stalling it.
