Hello new on here, I'm in the uk and just purchased a 1989 kdx 200 sr, well I think I have.
The tank is still with a unusual fuel tap, and the exhaust bolts onto the engine unlike what I have seen on the usual sr models. I have a couple of pics from imex Japan of the correct parts but they are only listed as the Japan variant g1 bike? Can anyone help pls, as the 2 parts mentioned, exhaust and petrol fuel tap I need to replace but all I can find are the incorrect ones.
See.pics of correct ones as listed on impex Japan but on the g1 variant.

Re: What kdx do I have?
Hi. Welcome to kdxrider.net. Can you post the frame number / VIN and engine number? I have the Kawasaki dealer books to look it up that way.
Post a pic of the bike, also if you can.
Thanks.

Re: What kdx do I have?
Hi mate thank you, I don't have engine number yet but vin number is dx200g-003131 so I'm guessing it is a G, must be a import from Japan.
Next question is where do I get a fuel tank or os there a conversion to maybe plastic, bear in mind I have the oil tank under there. And where do I get the correct bolt on exhaust cause I'm guessing I can't convert it to spring mounted exhaust.

I don't have pics just yet as it's in bits, but look the same as pic attached, with the sr panels and gators over the front folks. I will get engine number soon as I can, thanks for your help.

Re: What kdx do I have?
Hi. Thanks for the additional information.
That is called a "Frame Number". In the UK and a few other places, the KDX's have a frame number, not a VIN.
That frame is a 1989 KDX200-G1. Here is a screen shot of the dealer information.
We never had the SR version in the USA, so we don't know a lot about them. Look through some old threads here, as some members with those models have posted information.
I do remember someone mentioning buying an FMF pipe (which uses springs), then cutting the fronts off the FMF pipe and the stock pipe, then welding that stock front flange onto the FMF pipe so it would bolt on like the stock pipe does with the SR cylinder having the two studs method.
If it were mine, I would just try to get it going in sound order, then worry about switching pipes or tanks.
Check out the sub-forum for non-USA models. There is info in there.

Re: What kdx do I have?
Thank.you fornthe information I will look into this. The bike was running I just stripped it down to powder coat the frame, the exhaust is OK but very corroded and the tank leaks, so maybe I can get this repaired. Thanks for the info very useful

Re: What kdx do I have?
If it's a steel tank then it can be repaired. Just do it right and have a professional weld it up. Follow what ever prep they want to insure it doesn't go "boom" on them.
If the factory pipe isn't beat up, and just nasty looking, you can strip it and repaint it with some black BBQ paint to make it look nice again.

Re: What kdx do I have?
You're welcome. As SS109 mentioned, there are options. Look through some older threads here, as there are people talking about pipe finishing in general, as well as tank issues.
