This may seem like a dumb question, but should the external shift mechanism be able to shift the drum assembly through the gears if the clutch basket is taken off ? I reassembled my engine and shifted through the gears before I put the cases back together. I'm just about ready to put the whole engine back and I was confused as the why the drum with only shift slightly....
I am new to this rebuilding thing, and really don't feel like tearing this thing down again.

Re: External Shift Mechanism Question
Would this be similar to the bike not shifting though all gears when setting still, ... UNLESS one rocks the bike forward and back to get it to engage the next gear?

Re: External Shift Mechanism Question
You have to rotate the counter shaft by hand after each shift for it to shift through all the gears even with the clutch basket removed.

Re: External Shift Mechanism Question
Gotcha, makes sense now that I think about it. Just double checking my logic
