... premix in the morning! Well, not always!
Last weekend I noticed the petcock weeping from the pressed in fitting for the fuel line. During the week I made sure it was seated well and was done. Not so fast! Yesterday morning I head out on a 50+ mile ride. About 2 miles in my bike bogs out and dies. I'm thinking I forgot to turn my fuel on. Nope! I look down and the fitting had come completely out and was dumping gas everywhere including my left boot. I shut it off and had to do a trail side repair (zip tie saves the day!). Luckily nothing sparked the fuel as my bike and I would have been in serious trouble.
Lessons learned, don't ever trust the factory petcock if it starts weeping around the pressed in fitting, always carry zip ties, and it's really nice not catching fire!

Had a similar problem with mine, but just replaced it with a shorty for a small KX. Don't remember the details now.
But this post got me thinking. If I were to try to fix my old one, I would use one of the Loctite products to permanently secure the pressed in part to the petcock body.
Loctite Grade 290 is a low viscosity wicking grade made for use on assembled fasteners. This grade is also recommended for sealing porosity in castings and welded assemblies.
Based on my experience with Loctite products I use in pump repairs, I would be quite confident this would be a lasting repair for this particular problem.
