1983 250 pistons

Post by jack green »

rebuilding 1983 KDX 250 . I like the way it was set up and want to check if I have a KDx or KlX ? piston. What are the obvious differences?
Does anyone know some dimensions or have a way to tell. Also planning on getting cylinder electrosiled and wondering how well OEM rings go with that. I am thinking its sort of similar to the stock chrome and should be sweet?

Can you post the engine number and VIN? I would like to look up the exact model, then do a little research, as you have the AUS street legal version. In the USA, we only got dirt-only versions.

It is a KDX250-C1. We got the "B" models in the USA. Look through this:

Stock WAS Electrofusion coating. Did someone sleeve it since new? Having a cylinder plating company to strip off the old coating and plate it is usually the best way to go. For info's sake: (I know you are not mailing it over here)

thanks for that great info. Have got C3 (1985) and B2 manuals that looks to be for pretty much for the same bike with a few differences.
will be getting cylinder "electrosiled ' by a company in Australia that other local KDXers recommend. Its always fun learning about a new project.
I wonder how many C1KDXs were made for Australia?I figure at least 452 as my frame is 000 452. There is a bit of a history of japanese manufacturers making registerable versions of enduro bikes for Aus. it certainly opens up your riding options being road legal and hopefully will ultimately get this bike registered. Seems like core mechanical parts will be obtainable ,some other bits may require persistance and ingenuity!
I am still not sure what pistion this bike was running KX or KDX .

1984 frame numbering starts at 701. 1985 frame starts at 901, so I doubt they made very many at all!

The source is the Model Recognition Manual that dealers used to have in paper format.
