I'm not a KDX rider anymore! Last night I went and met fellow a KDXrider member (can't remember his forum name) and bought his '05 Gas Gas EC250. It is an ugly duckling, for sure, but it seams to run really good. I plan to order all new red plastics for it soon but want to go through everything else first. My KDX is now retired and this bike has replaced it as my primary ride/race bike for now.

Been a member of the GasGasRider forums for a few years now.
Gotanubike, not hard at all for most stuff. A lot of parts interchange with other bikes available. Like Honda CR250 crank and rod, Yamaha YZ250 kick start, earlier models used KX250 plastics, etc., etc.

Oh, no, I'm not done with KDX's and probably never will be! I might be leaving the E-series behind but I still have my KDX250AF to build and I will probably do a hybrid H-series down the road. I'll just stock up on as many parts as possible when I do!diymirage wrote:and the countdown starts, im guessing 2 seasons before you'll regret it (most likely regretting it already) and come back

I hope you will do a build diary like you did with your e-series with this one. That was a great read.

it will be a short diary:
day 1, replaced all the plastics
day 3, rode my first race
day 7, traded the entire bike for a set of E-series NOS subvalves

Thanks! Still have the white KDX. Might end up selling/parting her out, though. We'll see.Jason wrote:Congratulations on doing what you felt you needed to do to get to racing.

Did my first shake down ride today. Did about 40 miles of singletrack, deep sandwashes, and quad/jeep road. The GG is a great bike. So much power it was a handful at first but I started getting a feel for it. It is a wheelie machine! The big thing I noticed? The brakes. They are awesome!

Second day of riding. Sadly, I realize now that the KDX was not enough bike for me anymore. I haven't even gotten the suspension tuned yet and I'm already faster on it than I ever was on the KDX. My buddy rides an '03 KX250 setup for running harescrambles. We're normally very evenly matched. Today I was getting so far ahead of him I was having to stop and wait for a while. I can only imagine how good it is going to be once I get it all dialed in!

I am glad that GG is working out for you. I need to get the other 300 put together and/or finish my hybrid project. I can't quite bring myself to do the deal on the Honda 4 stroke. I'd probably sell it anyway.

Thanks, Guy! I still need to sort the jetting a bit but other than that she is working out fantastic! Can't believe how much power it has. Got it tore down right now going through everything in prep for the Laughlin race. New plastics and graphics are on their way from Spain as well. Got the kickstand modded like shown on the GG forums and is good to go.Yugmoto wrote:I am glad that GG is working out for you. Yeah, get one of those bikes running and get back on the trail. Riding season is here! If it was me I would get your KDX hybrid going first. It will be capable of just about anything short of Erzberg. Of course, that 300 will be a beast! Let me know when you're ready and I'll show you the trails down here!

Hey Kelly, I'll dig out the GG parts that I've got. Let me know what you need. The parts are yours if you can use them. The bottom end is still together you can have the top end as well.
