1986 KDX200 Air Box Boot Issue

I recently purchased a replacement air box boot for an 86-87 KDX200 from Hotfoot Moto, it looks great and slides over the end of the factory Mikuni carb as it should. However the boot seems to be very slippery (like it was coated is silicone) when i start to screw down the clamp the boot starts to slip off the end of the carb. If I try to move the clamp to the leading edge of the boot (carb side) the raised edge is large and the extruded tip that you pull on to draw it over the end of the carb tend to push the clamp away from the leading edge making it easier for the boot to slip off the end of the carb as you clamp it down. Has anyone run into the problem and what’s the fix to get better friction/less slipping of the new boot. I tried roughing the edge with sand paper, but it had little to no effect. Looking to see how anyone else had managed this problem.

Thx

If it's properly sized, and it's just too slick, try washing the end, inside and out, with Dawn dish soap.

I recently had the same issue with the new boot , i jammed a piece of wood behind the boot so it couldnt move backwards when I tightened it up.

Thx, the dish soap wash did the trick. I like it when the solution is simple. Must have been slick due to mold release left over on the boot. Glad it washed off and was much more tacky when clean.

Thanks for the follow up! I was wondering about this one. I am glad those new boots are working out for folks.
